Useful falls of 50mm and as high as 150mm were recorded in eastern parts of Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales over the past week.

At the beginning of the week, an extensive area of cloud extended from central Western Australia to south of Tasmania as a cold front and strong upper trough tracked across central and southern Australia. The system brought moderate falls to central and southern Western Australia, and light rainfall to southeastern South Australia and parts of southern Victoria. Moderate rainfall was recorded in western Tasmania as the cold front crossed the Tasman Sea. A surface trough located through inland Queensland brought light to moderate falls to parts of Queensland’s southern interior, and to parts of southeastern Queensland.

A broad area of low pressure across northern Australia and along the west coast of Western Australia, triggered thunderstorms and showers with moderate rainfall totals recorded in parts of the Kimberley, the Top End and Gulf Country, and across central and southern Western Australia.

By mid-week, a surface trough located through inland Queensland and New South Wales deepened, and generated moderate rainfall totals across southern Queensland extending into large areas of northeastern New South Wales. Light rain continued to fall in parts of western and central New South Wales, and throughout southeastern Queensland.

At the end of the week, a cold front crossed the coast of South Australia and western Victoria, generating moderate falls along the southeastern coast of South Australia, and light rainfall in western and northern Tasmania. The front merged with a low pressure trough over western New South Wales, with a low pressure centre deepening as the system moved off the New South Wales coast, and became more complex. Moderate falls were recorded in central Queensland, eastern New South Wales and eastern Victoria, in eastern South Australia from the Mid-North southwards, and western Victoria.

Rainfall totals in excess of 150 mm were recorded along parts of the coast of southeastern Queensland and in small areas of northeastern New South Wales. The highest weekly total of 286 mm was recorded at Rocky Point Sugar Mill in Queensland.

Rainfall totals between 50 mm and 150 mm were recorded in southeastern and southern Queensland, across a large part of northeastern and eastern coastal New South Wales and in parts of  the Gascoyne and South East Coastal districts in Western Australia.

Rainfall totals between 10 mm and 50 mm were recorded in parts of western and northeastern Tasmania; across eastern South Australia from the Mid-North southwards and western Victoria; in a broad band between the Pilbara and Southeast Coastal districts in Western Australia and smaller areas on the west coast and in the Kimberley as well as in the northwestern Top End; in parts of the Gulf Country and across eastern, central and southeastern Queensland, then surrounding areas of higher falls and extending south to parts of eastern Victoria.

Most of central Victoria, the west of New South Wales and Queensland, most of the Northern Territory away from the Top End, much of Western Australia and northern and western South Australia recorded little or no rainfall for the week.
