A cold southwesterly flow produced moderate rainfall totals and snow in southeastern Australia. A surface trough generated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall for the Gascoyne in Western Australia.

Past seven days: In the first part of the week, a deep low pressure system south of Tasmania directed a cold, vigorous west to southwesterly flow over the southeastern Australia. Moderate falls were recorded in western Tasmania, southern and northeastern Victoria, and southeastern New South Wales.

A cold front approached Tasmania and the far southeast of country from the Bight, which brought moderate falls to western Tasmania, and light falls to southern and eastern Victoria. A very cold and gusty southwesterly stream in the wake of the cold front produced further moderate rainfall and snow to low levels in Tasmania. Snow was also reported in elevated areas of the Snowy Mountains and Victorian Alps.

In the west, as a surface trough along the west coast interacted with an upper-level disturbance, a cloudband developed and extended to central Western Australia. Thunderstorms and showers generated moderate falls about the southern Pilbara, and Gascoyne districts. Light rainfall totals were recorded in the Goldfields and Southeast Coastal.

During the last part of the week a high pressure system moved slowly across southern Australia. This resulted in little or no rain recorded over most of Australia, apart from light rainfall in southwest Western Australia, southern Victoria and western Tasmania as a weak cold front brushed the southern coast.

Rainfall totals exceeding 50 mm were recorded in the western third of Tasmania and an area of northeastern Victoria. Some areas in western Tasmania recorded rainfall totals exceeding 100 mm, including the highest weekly rainfall total of 123 mm at Warra in western Tasmania.

Rainfall totals between 10 mm and 50 mm were recorded in the western half of Tasmania; in southern, eastern and northeastern Victoria; elevated areas in the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales; southeastern South Australia; and in the southern Pilbara, Gascoyne and Goldfields, and parts of southwest coast in Western Australia.

Little or no rainfall was recorded in remaining parts of Western Australia, most of South Australia except the southeast; the Northern Territory; Queensland; New South Wales except for around the Snowy Mountains, and small areas of northeastern Tasmania.
