Weekly rainfall update + rainfall outlook 9 April 2024

Bureau of Meteorology April 9, 2024

An east coast trough with a strong easterly flow brought weekly totals of 200 to 300 mm to Greater Sydney, the Illawarra, and locally along the New South Wales northern coastline over 5–6 April.

Weekly totals of 25 to 100 mm, and locally higher, were recorded across much of south-eastern Queensland due to a low pressure trough combined with a humid easterly airflow.

Weekly totals of 25 to 100 mm were recorded across much of Victoria and Tasmania due to a low pressure trough and associated cold front at the start of the week.

Weekly rainfall totals of 25 to 50 mm were recorded across parts northern Australia, with up to 100 mm on the Cape York Peninsula.

There was little to no rain in South Australia and Western Australia during the week.

The highest weekly total was 333.0 mm at Nashua (Wilsons River) in northern New South Wales, and the highest daily total was 257.0 mm at Wattamolla (Griffiths), in the New South Wales South Coast district, to 9 am 6 March.
