SOUTHERN Australia experienced the passage of multiple cold fronts and a windy week, with bands of rain, thunderstorms, and cool air over western South Australia, western and central Victoria and in north-western Tasmania.
A succession of cold fronts from 28 August to 2 September, brought showers, damaging winds, and Major flood warnings were issued for the Derwent and Meander river catchments in Tasmania.
In Tasmania, weekly rainfall totals greater than 200 mm were recorded in the west, totals greater than 100 mm were recorded in the north and totals of 50 to 100 mm were recorded in large areas of eastern and northern Tasmania.
Some areas in Victoria, south-east South Australia, south-west Western Australia had weekly totals between 15 to 50 mm, while 5 to 10 mm was recorded in parts of far north-east coastal Queensland, south-west Western Australia, southern New South Wales, northern Victoria and areas in southern South Australia.
The highest daily total was 81.4 mm at Pioneer (Tasmania) in the 24 hours to 9 am on 2 September and the highest weekly total was 272.8 mm at Warra (Tasmania).
