INTENSE rain and thunderstorms affected eastern New South Wales and northern Victoria during the week, and western parts of Western Australia late in the week.

Showers and rain continued across Australia’s tropical north.

The highest weekly total at a Bureau of Meteorology gauge was 197 mm at Topaz Alert (Queensland), while the highest daily total at bureau gauge was 144 mm at Crocker Island Airport (Northern Territory) to 9am on 22 March.

Weekly totals of 15–50 mm were recorded across most of the coastal northern tropics, south-east Queensland, eastern New South Wales and Victoria, as well as most parts of western Western Australia. The stormy nature of the week’s rain led to some areas receiving more than 50 mm.

Small areas along the Cape York coast received more than 100 mm of rainfall for the week.
