Weekly rainfall update + rain outlook 17 May 2023

Bureau of Meteorology, May 17, 2023

A HIGH pressure system directed onshore flow to the east coast, producing showers for coastal and some inland parts of New South Wales and Queensland.

Cold fronts impacted parts of southern Australia during the week bringing gusty winds and showers to Western Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.

Weekly rainfall totals between 25 and 50 mm were recorded on the coast in parts of Western Australia and northern New South Wales and in western Tasmania.

Parts of the Queensland coast also recorded weekly rainfall totals between 25 and 50 mm, but locally much higher totals due to onshore airflow.

The highest weekly rainfall total (at a bureau gauge) of 165.2 mm was recorded at Pacific Heights in Queensland, including the highest daily rainfall during the week of 154.8 mm in the 24 hours to 9am on 15 May.

Most of Australia recorded little to no rain during the week.
