MEAT & Livestock Australia has appointed former Integrity Systems chief executive officer Dr Jane Weatherley as its new general manager of research, development and adoption.

Dr Weatherley comes to the role following her time as general manager of communications and adoption, that she was appointed to in 2023.

Prior to this Dr Weatherley was CEO of the MLA subsidiary Integrity Systems Company, a position she held since 2016. She has also been MLA’s general manager for livestock productivity, and managed Meat Standards Australia, and livestock genetics and sheep productivity RD&E for MLA.

Dr Weatherley will now oversee MLA’s investment in on-farm and off-farm research and development projects, and will manage stakeholder relationships, including with Federal and State governments, producer groups, research bodies and universities.

She will also provide strategic direction and leadership to build awareness and adoption of MLA activities and programs.

Dr Weatherley said she was excited to be taking on the role and to be strategically heading up MLA’s dynamic research, development and adoption staff.

“I look forward to working with the MLA team in this role to engage with red meat and livestock producers and build greater connections with MLA’s research and adoption strategies.

“I look forward to collaborating with industry, researchers, and stakeholders to drive innovation, address challenges, and ensure the prosperity and sustainability of the red meat and livestock sector.”

MLA managing director Michael Crowley said MLA was thrilled to have Dr Weatherley’s expertise leading the research, development and adoption teams, especially as MLA commences the consultation phase for its next five-year MLA Strategic Plan.

“In her 12 years working for MLA and ISC, Jane has gained extensive experience in leading successful research outcomes for red meat producers across Australia,” Mr Crowley said.

“She has an incredible track record of delivering high value and impactful initiatives, backed by her immense passion for the sector.”

Dr Weatherley commenced her new role on 1 July 2024. MLA will soon start recruitment for a new general manager for communications.
