Store lambs dominate AuctionsPlus online offering

These scanned in-lamb 5.5 year-old Merino ewes sold for $375 on AuctionsPlus last week.

STORE lambs dominated the online AuctionsPlus sheep and lamb offering last week.

As regular commercial sheep and lamb sales resumed in 2021, AuctionsPlus offered 23,443 head, including more than 10,000 store lambs.

Sheep and lambs in south-west Victoria made up 41 percent of the offering, consisting mostly of store lambs.

Top purchasing regions included central west New South Wales, which secured 4868 head, followed by the Riverina with 2245 head, and NSW’s south-west slopes and plains, which purchased 2093 head.

Merino ewe hoggets sold from $300 to $356, to average $314. The top price was achieved by a line of scanned in-lamb (SIL) Westray blood ewe hoggets with 50mm fleeces that weighed 60kg at Curban, NSW. They were sold to a NSW buyer at Garah.

Young Merino ewes 2-4 years-old sold from $193 to $353, to average $271. The top price was paid for 194 2.5-3.5 year-old mid-October shorn Bundilla Poll blood Merino ewes scanned in lamb to the Poll Dorset at Temora, NSW. The ewes weighed 73kg and sold to NSW buyer at Spicers Creek.

Proven Merino ewes, four years and older, sold from $221 to $375, to average $284. The top price was paid for 185 5.5 year-old mid-August shorn Leahcim blood ewes scanned in-lamb to the Border Leicester at Peak Hill, NSW. They weighed 82kg and sold to a NSW buyer at Narromine.

Merino wether lambs sold from $132 and $164 and averaged $147. The top price was paid for 340 early October shorn April/May 2020 drop lambs at Rand, NSW. They weighed 45kgs and sold to a NSW buyer at Albury.

First cross ewe lambs sold from $242 to $323 and averaged $272. The top price was paid for 62 mid-November shorn May/June 2020 drop ewe lambs from Yando in Victoria. They weighed 59kgs and sold to a NSW buyer at Narrandera.

Tasmanian producers offered and sold 539 mixed sex crossbred lambs on AuctionsPlus last week. The top line of August/October 2020 drop Southdown cross suckers weighing 33kg at Ross sold for $133 or 410c/kg liveweight to a Western Junction buyer.

These 21.6kg Highland and White Suffolk cross lambs sold for $150 at Deans Marsh in Victoria last week.

The online store lamb offering of 10,070 head made up 43pc of the week’s catalogue.  Prices ranged from 383c/kg to 588c/kg and averaged 462c/kg lwt. Highlights included:

–         Highland & White Suffolk cross, Sept/Oct 2020 drop, 22kg, $127 or 588c/kg, Deans Marsh, VIC.

–         White Suffolk cross, July/Aug 2020 drop, 31kg, $169 or 552c/kg, Deans Marsh, VIC.

–         Composite cross, July/Aug 2020 drop, 30kg, $148 or 492c/kg, Chatsworth, VIC.

–         Poll Dorset cross, July/Aug 2020 drop, 38kg, $184 or 482c/kg, Benalla, VIC.

–         Poll Merino/White Suffolk cross, Aug/Sept 2020 drop, 32kg, $143 or 454c/kg, Coonalpyn, SA.

–         Southdown cross, Aug/Sept 2020 drop, 30kg, $138 or 455c/kg, Heywood, VIC.
