Sheep Producers Australia president Allan Piggott to stand again

Sheep Central, October 24, 2018

Sheep Producers Australia president Allan Piggott

SHEEP Producers Australia president Allan Piggott will stand for re-election this year for a further three-year term.

However, the peak sheep producers body has also issued a last-minute reminder to other prospective board director candidates.

SPA chief executive officer Graham Smith said Mr Piggott and fellow director Ian McColl are retiring from the board, but both are eligible to stand for re-election. Mr McColl has told Sheep Central he will also stand for re-election.

Mr Smith said the organisation is seeking candidates who are passionate about the success of SPA and the Australian sheep industry and who are looking for further professional development experiences.

“In addition, candidates must outline their capacity as a strategic thinker and highlight how they can challenge and suggest alternatives in a collaborative manner,” he said.

Applications for two member-based director positions on the peak sheep producers’ body’s board close this Friday 26 October.

SPA seeking people with skills

SPA is seeking applications from individuals with high-level capabilities in the following skills-based criteria:

An extremely good understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the Australian agricultural sector, particularly the sheep industry.

Practical knowledge of best practice sheep farming, including precision agriculture.

Strong relationships with and knowledge of local and national farming organisations.

Current networks within government, agribusiness and industry at a local and, ideally, national level.

The term for a member-elected director is three years commencing from the annual general meeting at which they are appointed. Directors are paid a day rate and reimbursed for travel expenses. The board meets at least six times per year, as well as for strategy workshops. Other meetings are held by teleconference as required.

Applications must be endorsed by an authorised signatory of a SPA state member, namely Agforce, NSWFarmers, Victorian Farmers Federation, Tasmania Farmer’s and Grazier’s Association, Livestock SA, WA Farmers Federation or Pastoralist and Graziers of WA.

The successful applicants will be announced at the SPA AGM – to be held on Tuesday 20 November at 4pm (AEDST) at NFF House, 14-16 Brisbane Ave, Barton ACT.
