Sheep leadership program applications extended

SHEEP Producers Australia is offering two lucky young industry people the opportunity to participate in the Next Generation Sheep Producers Forum program at Lambex 2024 in Adelaide in August.

Applications for the opportunity have been extend until Thursday 21 March.

By participating in the Next Generation Program, the successful applicants will meet like-minded sheep producers from around the world, gain a broader in depth understanding of the Australian sheep industry, and support Sheep Producers Australia’s engagement with international partners.

The program is part of the Global Sheep Producers Forum, a collaborative initiative aimed at fostering sustainable practices in the global sheep industry. The program brings together young sheep farmers from NZ, USA, UK, Australia, Canada and South Africa, offering a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and skill development.

The two successful applicants will get the the opportunity to form a global network and professional development opportunity, undertaking a project with a global partner to exchange ideas, share knowledge and contribute to the development of industry initiatives.

Network groups will be formed with participants from partner countries where they will decide on an area of sheep production that they want to focus on. Throughout the program they will meet online with their group to work on this project and will present their findings to the Global Sheep Forum online following the in-person visit to Australia.

As part of this opportunity, the successful applicants will meet face to face in August for a series of on farm visits and experiences before being a participant at LambEx in Adelaide.

Applicants must be under 35, have demonstrated leadership in the Australian sheep industry and be actively involved in sheep farming in Australia. Apply by emailing your CV and a cover letter to [email protected].

​In the cover letter, applicants must explain why they believe they are the ideal participant to take part in this program; how the align with the values mentioned, and detail how they have demonstrated leadership within the Australian sheep industry.

​Otherwise, applicants can send in a two-minute video they can make on their phone, showing us around and answering the above questions.
