THE Intercollegiate Meat Judging Association will host a three-day digital careers expo, with a range of activities now planned starting with an industry advice panel on Wednesday July 8.

Normally held as a physical event as part of ICMJ’s annual meat judging competitions, this year’s Careers Expo is in digital form, following COVID travel and gathering restrictions.

Co-ordinator Rozzie O’Reilly said an expanded program was a result of the incredible demand for information from eager university students interested in careers in the meat and livestock industry.

The new program would provide multiple opportunities for students to obtain career advice and to connect with prospective employers with one-on-one interviews, Ms O’Reilly said.

“The careers expos are immensely popular features of ICMJ’s annual conferences at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, and CQUniversity in Rockhampton each year, and we’ve tried to replicate as many elements of those as we can in this year’s online format,” she said.

As a result of coronavirus restrictions forcing the cancellation of its conferences and workshops, ICMJ has shifted to digital delivery to ensure students and young industry professionals can continue to access meat science training and networking opportunities.

Here’s what’s on offer during the ICMJ Virtual Careers Expo program:

The ICMJ Careers Panel discussion will feature leaders from the beef, lamb and pork sectors, and representing producers, processors and R&D organisations. The panellists will discuss the range of career paths on offer, in-demand skill sets, and what employers are looking for in graduates. The webinar will be held at Noon on Wednesday July 8 via Zoom – Click here to register.

The ICMJ Jobhunter Training Session will feature presentations from leading rural recruitment agency, Rimfire Resources, on top tips for jobseekers, as well as networking advice from the chief executive of Beef Australia Ian Mill. The training session will help prepare participants to meet prospective employers. The webinar will be held from Noon on Thursday July 9 via Zoom. Click here to register.

The ICMJ Workforce Showcase will enable students to hold one-on-one video meetings with prospective employers from more than 30 different agribusinesses from across the country. The meetings will be facilitated via phone app and will take place on Friday July 10 – interview booking details will be announced next week.

The Virtual Careers expo will also feature a strong social media component, with participating agribusinesses looking to recruit students to be featured on the ICMJ social media channels.
