Sheep Central, July 11, 2022

These 1-6 year-old rangeland does at Cobar in New South Wales sold for $169 on AuctionsPlus last month.

QUALITY goat offerings made robust prices in four weekly commercial sales on AuctionsPlus that offered 5667 goats in June.

Prices were mixed for the reduced monthly offering — 20 percent lower than in May — with rates improving for the largest lines, but dropping in key categories.

AuctionsPlus said the overall clearance for the month reached 84pc, back from 95pc in May. Top listing regions included central west New South Wales (1855 head), southern Queensland (1317) and western Queensland (1245).

On the purchasing side, AuctionsPlus said the proportion of states securing commercial goats shifted significantly in June. New South Wales recorded the largest change in purchases, with its total proportion decreasing from 53pc to just 18pc. Queensland buyers bought 51pc of goats sold in June, with southern buyers purchasing 1429 and 1195 head going to western Queensland. Victoria buyers bought 31pc of the June offering, up from 1pc in May, driven predominantly by processors.

Rangeland does dominate listings

AuctionsPlus said the 2278 rangeland does offered was the largest category offering for the month. Prices ranged from $130 to $169 to average $158, or 588c/kg lwt, up $26, with a clearance rate of 73pc. At Cobar in New South Wales, the top price for the category was $169 for 330 1-6 year-old rangeland does weighing 25kg lwt, paid by a NSW buyer at Bingara.

The 1573 rangeland bucks offered made from $122-$135 to average $131 or 554c/kg, up $19/head. Processor demand enabled a 100pc clearance. At Surat in Queensland, 840 7-8 month-old rangeland bucks sold in two lines weighing 34kg lwt sold for $135 to a Victorian buyer.

First cross does sell to $225

The 285 first cross rangeland/Boer bucks averaged $120, back $5. At Thallon in QLD, a line of 7-12 month-old wethers weighing 20kg lwt made $120 with a QLD buyer at Burnett Heads.

All of the 550 first cross rangeland/Boer does offered sold, for between $190-225 to average $204. A highlight was the $225 paid for 165 6-8 month-old does weighing 18.5kg lwt at Dubbo in NSW that made the top price of $225 or 1216 c/kg.
