Prices hold in record AuctionsPlus sheep and lamb offering

These early July shorn 17-18 month-old Merino ewes sold for $336 at Callawadda in Victoria last week.

MOST sheep and lambs sold dearer online last week as a doubling of the store lambs offering on AuctionsPlus helped set a new weekly record of 182,726 head, up 101,727.

This was about 64,000 more sheep and lambs than the online saleyard platform’s previous record commercial offering.

New South Wale’s Riverina and central west regions continued to secure large numbers, purchasing 18,600 and 15,860 head respectively.

Despite the large numbers, the market held much of its value, with firm to dearer trends across most categories, although Merino ewe lambs and store lambs had slight price reductions.

Merino ewe hoggets sell to $350

These late July shorn 17-18 month-old Merino ewes sold for $350 at Balaklava in South Australia last week

Merino ewe lambs sold from $148.50 to $238.50, to average $192, down $15. The top price was paid for a line of July/August 2019 drop Mumblebone blood ewe lambs weighing 53kgs from Balcomb Agriculture at Cudal, NSW.

Merino ewe hoggets sold from $145 to $350 to average $266, up $45. AuctionsPlus offered 19,350 head, up 11,500. The top prices was paid for a line of July shorn Moorundie blood hoggets weighing 71kgs from Tiller and Thompson at Balaklava in South Australia. They were sold to a Bordertown buyer.

Young Merino ewes average $252

Merino ewes 2-4 years-old sold from $159 to $332 to average $252, up $36. The top price was paid for a line of unjoined ewes weighing 83kgs from J.P. and M.J. Lewis. Another highlight was $320 for a line of scanned in-lamb ewes weighing 66kgs offered by Scott Groat Pty Ltd at Goolgowi, NSW.

Proven Merino ewes four years and older sold from $117 to $307 to average $191, down $1. The top price was paid for a line of Kettleson Park blood ewes weighing 75kgs with 2-3 month-old lambs weighing 26kgs from A. & N. Hocking at Dingee, Victoria.

Merino wether lamb averages lifts to $123

Merino wether lambs sold from $90 to $146 to averaged $123, up $4. The top price was paid for a line of August/September 2019 drop lambs weighing 50kgs from N.M. and I.J. Ridley at Burcher, NSW.

Merino wethers sold from $116 to $153 to average $125, up $9. The top price was paid for a line of wethers weighing 54kgs from Waverly West at Branxholme in Victoria. They were bought by a NSW buyer at Goulburn.

First cross ewes lambs sell to $360

First cross ewe lambs sold from $217 to $360, to average $292, up $23, and 86pc of the offering was sold. The top price was paid for a line of May/June 2019 drop ewe lambs weighing 82kgs in the Narrandera Annual Spring 1st Cross Ewe Sale from R.J. and D.L. Conway at Grong Grong, NSW.

Ewes with lambs sold from $220 to $493, averaging $305, up $5. The top price was paid for a line of Australian White ewes weighing 78kgs with 2-5 week-old lambs offered by D.&T. Jensen at Diggora, VIC. A line of first cross ewes weighing 68kgs with lambs sold for $440 for G.K. & A.J. Stephan at Nhill, VIC.

Store lamb offering increases

AuctionsPlus offered 9028 in the Elders WA Forward Contract Lamb Sale last week, an increase of 7197. Prices ranged from 265-313c/kg liveweight. The top price was paid for a line of 750 mixed sex lambs offered by the Hurst Family Trust at Dandaragan.

Nationally, the number of store lambs on AuctionsPlus doubled last week, increasing by 10,426 head to 21,176. The large offering failed to impede buyer confidence, with 96pc clearance rate achieved. Prices eased 37c/kg to average 351c/kg and range from 287-426c/kg. Highlights included:

May/July ’20 drop, 30kg, Highlander/Focus Primes mixed sex suckers from KINGSCOTE, Victoria, sold for 426c or $126

May/Jun ’20 drop, 43kg, Merino/Border Leister mixed sex suckers from CRYON, New South Wales, sold for 417c or $179

Jun/Jun ’20 drop, 35kg, Merino/ White Suffolk mixed sex suckers from HARDEN, New South Wales, sold for 416c or $146

Jun/Jul ’20 drop, 36kg, Merino/ White Suffolk mixed sex suckers from LAKE CARGELLIGO, New South Wales, sold for 409c or $147

May/Jun ’20 drop, 39kg, Merino/ White Suffolk mixed sex suckers from WEST WYALONG, New South Wales, sold for 405c or $158

May/Jun ’20 drop, 36kg, Border Leicester/ Merino/ Poll Dorset mixed sex suckers from GUNDAGAI, New South Wales, sold for 405c or $147
