Sheep Central, June 11, 2018

AWI Nuffield scholar for 2017-18 Scott Nicholson from Stawell will research technology to modernise and improve profitability in the sheep and wool industry.

SHEEP and wool producers with an industry issue they believes needs investigating have less than a week to apply for the 2019 Nuffield Scholarship round.

Australian Wool innovation sponsors the annual AWI Nuffield Woolgrower Scholarship, in collaboration with Nuffield Australia.

AWI said the scholarship is a unique opportunity for somebody in the wool industry to study a particular subject of interest, and increase practical farming knowledge and management skills and techniques in the Australian wool industry.

Applications for a 2019 Nuffield Scholarship close this Friday June 15 2018. Up to 25 prestigious scholarships are available to primary producers with the drive and enthusiasm to produce change within their farm business and industry.

Nuffield Australia provides opportunities to Australian primary producers and managers between the ages of 28 and 45 to travel the globe investigating a research topic important to them and Australian agriculture. Scholars are provided with a $30,000 bursary to embark on a 16-week program consisting of both group and individual travel over a two-year period.

Nuffield Australia said the scholarships provide exciting and rewarding experiences for Australia’s farmers so that they can expand or diversify their farm business through increased knowledge and exposure to global best practice. More broadly, it is a springboard for Australian farmers, equipping them with the experiences and knowledge they need to affect positive change in their industry, the organisation said.

The successful recipients will be announced at an annual awards dinner held as part of the Nuffield Australia National Conference in September this year in Melbourne.
