NSW and national young auctioneers ready for Sydney show

THE 2023 ALPA national and New South Wales Young Auctioneers Competition finalists have been announced for the sell-off at the Sydney Royal Easter Show this week.

The NSW-based finalists for the national competition will include Jake Smith, Ray White Rural, Tenterfield, and Harry Waters, Elders Rural Services, Gundagai.

The Queensland finalists are Jake Robinson, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Dalby, and Justin Rohde, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Emerald.

The South Australia finalists are Jack Guy, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Bordertown, and Nathan McCarthy, Elders Rural Services, Lucindale.

Victoria’s finalists for the national competition will be Harrison Cozens, Elders Rural Services, Albury, and Jack Ginnane, Nutrien South Gippsland Livestock, Leongatha.

The Western Australia finalist is Pearce Watling, Elders Rural Services, Bunbury.

The 2023 ALPA New South Wales Young Auctioneers Competition finalists include Ryan Browne, Kevin Miller, Whitty, Lennon & Co., Forbes; Jaiden Burke, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Narrandera; Hamish Fauchon, Davidson Cameron & Co, Coonabarabran; Jesse Gauci, Elders Rural Services, Bathurst; Jack Maloney, T & W McCormack, Casino; Jack Mann, Delta Livestock & Property Young, Young; Justin Oakenfull, Elders Rural Services, Inverell; Henry Pitman, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Bathurst; Michael Purtle, Purtle Plevey Agencies, Manilla, and; Matthew Savins, Elders Rural Services, Scone.

On Thursday 6 April, the high adrenaline atmosphere of the saleyards will be on full display at the Sydney Royal Easter Show with the best of the best showcasing the talent of the auctioneering profession.

Nine of the finest young auctioneers from across the nation will go head-to-head in the battle of the gavel to see who is Australia’s best. The Australian Livestock & Property Agents Association (ALPA) National Young Auctioneers Competition is in its 32nd year.

The finalists will be vying for the supreme title of 2023 ALPA National Young Auctioneer and their name will be engraved in history on the Prosser Cup.

The NAB Agribusiness Team Shield reigning champions New South Wales will be on a mission to retain their title. The shield is awarded to the state with the highest aggregate score.

The ALPA New South Wales Young Auctioneers Competition is in its 35th year. The ten New South Wales finalists join a legacy to compete for the title of 2023 ALPA NSW Young Auctioneer as well as the John Weekes Memorial Shield and the opportunity to represent NSW at the 2024 ALPA Young Auctioneers Competition national final at the 2024 Sydney Royal Easter Show.

In an exciting development in this year’s program for the first time ever the winners and runners up of the competitions will sell additional lots as an encore performance. Last year’s ALPA National Young Auctioneer Will Claridge and New Zealand’s Young Auctioneer Brook Cushion from PGG Wrightsons Morrinsville have also been invited to join them.

On the night before the competitions, ALPA members, industry members, and the competitor’s family and friends will gather for the annual ALPA National and NSW Young Auctioneers Dinner. The dinner celebrates the talents and hard work of the young auctioneers, from past to present. A highlight of the night will be the charity auction. This year ALPA will be raising funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities. The competition will be livestreamed at www.theland.com.au.
