Nominations called for annual SALRC excellence awards

NOMINATIONS have been called for the Southern Australia Livestock Research Council awards for excellence.

The annual SALRC awards were developed to recognise, reward and celebrate excellence in the contributions of individuals several areas of the southern Australianred meat and livestock industries.

Awards are given to individuals for excellence in the areas of research and development; extension and communication; and the practical application of innovation on farm, to improve the profitability, productivity and sustainability of the region.

The SALRC committee will co-ordinate the nomination and selection process for the four award categories of livestock producer; scientist/researcher; communicator/extension specialist and; young achiever – 35 years or under.

Nominees must have excelled in their individual fields and must have either resided or spent a substantial amount of time in aouthern Australia while they excelled in their particular field. Their work must be relevant to sheep meat and beef cattle industries in southern Australia.

Overall, nominees will be judged on; value of their work to the Australian livestock industries; work carried out above and beyond normal duties; the standing of the nominee in the Australian livestock industries; the degree to which the nominee has been a change agent and; the degree to which the individual has been an industry leader / mentor.

In announcing the opening of the 2024 SALRC Awards, SALRC chair Ian Rogan said SALRC is committed to working with livestock producers and service providers for the livestock industries across four states.

“We run a range of processes to identify priorities for investment in research and development activities to enable increased productivity, profitability and environmental sustainability of these important industries,” he said.

“Our annual awards for excellence provide recognition of producers, researchers and other service providers who are leaders in these fields.”

Nominations must be from a third party (i.e. no self-nomination). Award nominations will be considered on 14 June 2024. Award recipients will be invited to attend the Livestock 2024 Gala Dinner in Albury NSW on 21 August 2024.
