New South Wales buyers lead the charge for lambs on AuctionsPlus

These mixed sex Australian White-Dorper cross lambs weighing 35.8kg lwt at Narromine in NSW sold for $121 or 801c/kg on AuctionsPlus last week.

AUCTIONSPLUS commercial sheep and lamb listings fell by 8 percent last week to 72,619 head and met strong demand.

The overall clearance increased to 79pc and value over reserve lifted by $3 to average $10.

The crossbred lamb indicator or average price paid rose by 6pc to average $130/head and the restocker lamb indicator also improved, averaging 734c/kg dressed.

New season lamb sales performed well across the platform, with the end with an 87pc clearance of the 46,348 head offered. The category made up 63pc the all commercial sheep and lamb listings, returning an average price of $117, up $7 per head from the previous week.

New South Wales maintained its position as the highest listing and purchasing state. NSW producers offered 31,911 head, down from 5089 offered the previous week.

The second largest listing state was Victoria, that had a marginal increase in listings of 808 head to end the week with 21,298 head. South Australia also experienced a slight rise in numbers to 16,603 head.

AuctionsPlus said purchasing volume softened across all states except Victoria last week, where purchasing numbers rose by 391 head. NSW buyers bought 27,635 head.

At Burrumbuttock in NSW, 268 April 2024 drop mixed sex Poll Dorset cross lambs weighing 38kg lwt sold for $160/head, or 421c/kg, to a buyer in Boweya, Victoria.

At Barellan in NSW, 170 14-16 month-old first cross ewes weighing 59kg sold for $226/head, or 382c/kg lwt, to a buyer in Woodstock, NSW.

At Grenfell in NSW, 254 2.4-2.5 year-old Merino ewes weighing 64kg sold for $172/head, or 271c/kg lwt, to a buyer in Wagga wagga, NSW.
