MLA/AWI wool and sheep meat survey is on the way

Sheep Central, February 1, 2021

AUSTRALIA’S sheep producers have been urged to look out for the annual wool and sheep meat survey in their ‘snail mail’.

The survey from Meat & Livestock Australia and Australian Wool Innovation was posted on 22 January.

The R&D bodies said the survey provides useful information on lamb and ewe numbers, producer intentions, marking rates and breeds. Producers can also win a $1000 dollar fuel card for participating in the survey.

Responses will help to determine trends for the sheep meat and wool industries, such as ewe and lamb numbers, marking percentages for the previous year and the status of the flock rebuild.

The results of the survey will also allow for regional and state-by-state analysis of sheep meat and wool production, as well as the industry’s standing at a national level, and highlight associated key market drivers and differing trends for each of these.

All survey responses will be made available after its completion, and will assist MLA and AWI to provide market forecasts and analysis that will offer key considerations for producers throughout the year – as such, it is important to have a large response for the most accurate information.

Individual data collected for the survey will remain strictly confidential. The survey will be available until 29 February 2021. For your participation, you will go into the running to win a $1000 fuel card.

The survey will be available online from Monday, 1 February. A link to this will be included in 4 February Prices & Markets edition.

Previous survey results are available here.
