Merino ewe lamb prices lift $6 in big AuctionsPlus offering

MERINO ewe lamb prices average $20 higher on AuctionsPlus last week, as the national online sheep offering stayed historically high.

AuctionsPlus offered 122,245 sheep and lambs last week, just 800 fewer than the previous week.

The central west region of New South Wales dominated purchasing again last week, securing 14,180 sheep and lamb, followed by the Riverina region of NSW with 8458 head.

Merino ewe lambs sold from $130 to $262, averaging $186, a $20 increase. The top price was paid for a 9-10 month-old Haddon Rig blood ewe lambs from Haddon Rig at Warren, NSW. The lambs carried a 4-5cm fleece and weighed 40kg live.

At Snowtown in South Australia, a line of May-June 2019 drop Leachim Poll Merino blood ewe lambs from Ebsary Pastoral weighing 37kg sold for $220. A line of September/October 2019 drop Glendemar blood ewe lambs with 4-5cm fleece and weighing 30kg at Enngonia, NSW, from the Outback Pastoral Co. sold for $182.

Merino ewe hoggets sold from $157 to $235, averaging $201. The top price went to a line of 1.5 year-old hoggets offered by Lexo Pty Ltd at Gunning, NSW, that weighed 43kg and had 2.5-4cm fleeces. At Louth in NSW, a line of 1.5 year-old ewes weighing 43kgs made $220.

Young Merino ewes sell to $321

Young Merino breeders 2-4 years-old sold from $186 to $321, averaging $273, up $3. The category’s clearance rate was 76pc, with 2791 head sold. The top prices was paid for a line of 3.5 year-old Kerin blood Poll Merino ewes scanned in lamb to Merino rams and weighing 64kg offered by T.S. & E.A. Tourle at Dubbo, NSW.

South Australian vendors offered several lines of young Merino ewes, with several heading to NSW. A line of three year-old scanned in lamb Kamora Park blood ewes from RAE Erickson at Tailem Bend sold $307. They weighed 72kg and had 4-5cm skins. The same vendor sold a line of lighter rising two year-old 69kg scanned ewes for the same price to a NSW buyer at Wagga Wagga.

Older Merino ewes also sell to $321

The online offering of 4000 proven Merino breeders, four years-old and older, averaged $255, down $17 on last week, and sold from $188 to $321. More than 4000 head were sold. At Ungarie NSW, AS & LM Bryant sold a line of 4.5 year-old scanned Pure Pastora blood ewes weighing 69kg for the top price. At Blackall in Queensland, JH & RG Banks Pty Ltd sold a line of mixed age scanned ewes weighing 58kgs for $253 to a NSW buyer at Warren. The Foylewood Farming Co at Marrar, NSW, sold a line of 6.5 year-old scanned Pastora blood ewes for $240. The ewes weighed 80kgsand carried 4-5cm fleeces.

Merino wether lambs sold to $180

AuctionsPlus sold Merino wether lambs for $84 to $180, averaging $140, down $12. More than 9000 head were sold. Three lines offered at Euroa & Rutherglen in Victoria, and at White Cliffs, NSW, sold for the top price. Elgo at Euroa sold a line of 9-11 month-old Collinsville and Toland blood wethers weighing 38kg with 2.5cm fleeces. At Brewarrina, NSW, a line of vendor bred October/November 2019 Mulloorie and Green Field blood wether lambs weighing 28kgs and with 2.5-3cm fleeces sold for $130. A line of 5-8 month-old Well Gully wethers with mostly 5-6.5cm fleeces and weighing 32kgs at Longreach, QLD, sold for $122.

Older Merino wethers sold from $154 to $188, averaging $170, up $12. The top price was paid for a line of 14-20 month-old hoggets weighing 58kgs and with 5-6.5cm fleeces from the Yarraford Pastoral Company at Gunnedah, NSW.

First cross ewe lambs sell to $317

First cross ewe lambs sold from $191 to $317 to average $250, up $6. The top price went to a line of 9-10 month-old unjoined ewes weighing 55kg from the Kinsey Trading Trust at Trangie, NSW. At Tooraweenah, NSW, Utopia Pastoral received $280 for a line of August/September 2019 drop first cross ewe lambs that weighed 52kgs.

Older first cross SIL ewes sold from $194 to a record top price of $421, averaging $327 with over 1,000 head sold. The top price was achieved by a line of SIL ewes offered by A/c ‘Fowlers Farm’ in Kerang, VIC. Weighing 84kgs, these 2.7-2.8-year-old ewes were SIL to White Suffolk rams. Another highlight across this stock category is a line of SIL ewes weighing 76kgs from Violet Town which will be making their way to Oberon, NSW. These mixed age ewes were joined to Poll Dorset rams and sold for $340.

Shedding breed lambs sold very well achieving 84% clearance among the 2,950 head offered. These lambs sold from $89.50 to $174, averaging $149. The top price was attained by Australian White wether lambs offered by A/c ‘Leven Pastoral’ from Coolah, NSW. These May-Sept ’19 drop Tattykeel and Highveld blood wethers weigh 37kgs.

In Tasmania last week, 1651 sheep and lambs were offered, down from the 1742 head offered the previous week. Prices ranged from $72 to $154, averaging $129, down $34 on last week. Two lines offered were crossbred lambs selling for $146 and $154, with the latter achieving the top price overall. From Oatlands, offered by A/c ‘Lilliesleaf Farming’ a line of Aug/Sept ’19 Composite/Corriedale mixed sex lambs achieved the top price, weighing 41kgs. A line of 5-year-old Merino wethers were offered and made $132. From Lemont, offered by A/c ‘DJ & LM Manning’, these Sierra Park blood wethers weigh 47kgs with 2-2.5” skins.

Across the country, Western Australian vendors had 14,684 head offered in various national sales last week. A line of Poll Dorset crossbred Jun/Jul ’19 drop lambs sold for $158. Offered by A/c ‘Hurst Family Trust’ from Dandaragan, these lambs weigh 41kgs. From Kojaneerup South, offered by A/c ‘Baboo Pastoral Co’ a line of May/Jun ’19, 38kg White Suffolk mixed sex lambs sold for $140.

AuctionsPlus offered 14,871 store lambs last week, which sold from 379-575c/kg liveweight and averaging 469c/kg. The online marketer sold 76pc of the 11,000 head offered.

–              Aug/Sept ’19 – 41kg 1st X Composite mixed sex store lambs from OATLANDS, Tasmania sold from $154 or 392c

–              Sept/Oct ’19 – 37kg 2nd X White Suffolk mixed sex store lambs from PADTHAWAY, South Australia sold for $176 or 485c
