Live export stockies and vets get insurance option

Sheep Central, December 8, 2021

ALEC CEO Mark Harvey-Sutton.

THE Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council (ALEC) and Nutrien Ag Solutions have announced the launch of corporate travel insurance for the live export industry.

Nutrien Ag Solutions insurance manager for the south east Chris Agnew, presented the policy to ALEC Members, stock people and live export vets this past fortnight.

Mr Agnew said it had previously been hard for individual stock contractors and veterinarians to get cover in their own right.

“But by making it a corporate group policy that covered all those people, the economies of scale basically made it more attractive to the insurance companies.

“A lot of them were having trouble getting any sort of cover whatsoever,” he said.

“It didn’t matter what the price was they couldn’t obtain the cover in their own right.”

The group policy will insure the workers for illness and injury, including medical and hospital costs, personal baggage, equipment and liability.

Mr Agnew said developing a tailored Insurance solution for the live export industry, offered an assurance that there are options and coverage in place in case things do not go to plan.

“Nutrien Ag Solutions and Marsh are glad to have been able to find solutions and to provide an appropriate insurance policy that supports the live export industry needs,” he said.

The initial corporate partnership discussion between ALEC and Nutrien quickly identified that having an affordable and comprehensive insurance coverage available for the live export industry stock people and vets was a priority.

ALEC chief executive officer Mark Harvey-Sutton said ALEC is impressed by the amount of work and support that has been given to the live export industry by Nutrien and Marsh and ultimately the Insurer Accident and Health International.

“This is an opportunity for our members, stock people and vets to independently secure insurance, which previously has been difficult.

“Nutrien Ag Solutions’ partnership with ALEC is offering support not only to our future leaders with the Young Achiever Award partnership but also support for the people on vessel in order to provide food security to our neighbours and partners,” he said.

Nutrien Ag Solutions Group GM Customer & Business Services Tom Breen said Nutrien Ag Solutions is very proud to partner with ALEC to support the Livestock Exporter Young Achiever of the Year Award and facilitate a tailored insurance policy solution.
