Goat EID and meat market trends to feature at NSW field day

GOAT meat market trends, electronic identification, health and reproductive issues will be covered at a major field day at Collie in central west New South Wales next week.

Registrations are open for the third on-farm Goat Production Field Day, hosted by Craig and Jo Stewart at ‘Buena Vista’ near Collie.

The free field day is supported by Meat & Livestock Australia and will include presentations with production and herd health improvement options as well as hands-on demonstrations.

Topics and speakers include:

  • Goat production at Buena Vista – Paddock to plate: Craig and Jo Stewart, Buena Vista.
  • Industry trends to watch in 2023: Trudie Atkinson, NSW DPI.
  • Goat industry update from MLA: Dr Melanie Smith, Meat & Livestock Australia.
  • Kids+ – Improving reproductive performance: Professor Louw Hoffman, University of Queensland.
  • How to earn compound interest in your goats: Genetic gain: Dr Tom Granleese, NSW DPI.
  • Worm management: Dr Anne Beasley, University of Queensland.
  • Drench efficacy – New research: Kathryn Dawson, PhD candidate, University of Queensland.
  • ParaBoss: Megan Rogers, ParaBoss.
  • Business operations and market specifications: Diwash Karki, Nyngan Abattoir.

There will be practical demonstrations of breaking a carcase down and the latest goat-handling and management technology.

The event runs from 8am to 4.30pm, but registration for the field day is essential as places are limited. Lunch is provided, BYO chairs.
