FTA with Europe would open opportunities for more Aussie lamb and beef + VIDEO

Sheep Central, November 6, 2015

IN THIS short video produced by Meat & Livestock Australia, international business manager for Europe and Russia Josh Anderson provides a brief snapshot of recent developments in the region for Australian sheepmeat and beef exports.

On the trade access front, recent announcements regarding the prospect of discussions over a Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Australia could have big implications for Australian exports, he suggests.

With a relatively affluent population topping 500 million people, and an appetite for beef and sheepmeat, Europe represents a great opportunity for expanded trade, beyond the 25,000 tonnes of beef and 20,000 tonnes of sheepmeat currently shipped each year under tight quota arrangements.

Other topics discussed in the video include Australia’s success in the recent World Steak Challenge, where Aussie entries won four of 11 gold medals as well as the event’s overall championship (see Sheep Central’s original coverage here).

Mr Anderson also provides a snapshot of outcomes from the recent ANUGA trade show, where 16 Australian beef and sheepmeat exporters had a presence, engaging with global customers from across Europe, as well as Asia and the Middle East. The Australian precinct coordinated by MLA included a fully-functioning kitchen and dining room to showcase company products, and promote Australia’s True Aussie identity.
