A NEW world record for a sheep dog has been set with a collie bitch selling for £18,900 or just over A$37,000 at the Skipton Auction Mart in England last week.

CCM Auctions, auctioneers at the mart, reported that Northumberland shepherdess, 34 year-old Emma Gray, on Friday sold her 2.5 year-old black and white bitch, Megan, for 18,000gns (£18,900) to an American buyer.

The American buyer bid over the phone for the bitch after she was demonstrated at the auction.

Megan’s price bettered the previous record of £14,805 paid by a Northern Ireland sheep producer for Padraig Doherty’s Irish collie Cap in 2016 at Skipton.

Emma also hit the headlines at Skipton February 2019 auction when she established a new world record price for a working sheep dog bitch of 14,000 guineas (£14,700 or about A$27,000) with her two year-old tri-coloured bitch Brenna, which also sold to an American buyer.
