AUSTRALIA’S livestock export sector has celebrated a committed young achiever and a pioneer at its annual LIVEXchange conference gala dinner in Darwin last night.
LiveCorp chair presented the Ian McIvor Lifetime Achiever Award to “true pioneer” Angus Adnam, inducting him into the industry’s Hall of Fame.
Nutrien Ag Solutions and the Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council announced the winner of the 2022 Livestock Exporter Young Achiever of the Year award as ILSC Roebuck depot manager, Ceny Hussie.
LiveCorp chair Troy Setter presented the award to Mr Adnam and said he was a true pioneer.
“Angus was one of the very early exporters, venturing into countries where the industry had never been before to open up new markets.
“His whole career has been committed to trade and market access, animal welfare and community development overseas,” he said.
The Ian McIvor Lifetime Achiever Award is named after a previous Hall of Fame recipient, and nominees are judged by their peers for their exceptional service to live exports and their reputation in the industry.
Mr Adnam left the family farm at the age of 17 to become a shipboard stockperson, looking after cattle being exported from central Queensland to northern Sabah.
“I was tremendously fortunate to be part of a team that pioneered livestock exporting to many destinations – facilitating shipments that had many challenges but also created great prosperity for our clients,” Mr Adnam said.
“The industry has been one of my core passions in life and one that has provided a lifetime of memories and friendships. Many of those in the Hall of Fame were friends and mentors, and I’m honoured to join them.”
After several years travelling the world delivering livestock for exporter AUSTREX, Mr Adnam opened the company’s Darwin office in 1975 and its Singapore office in 1983, continuing to travel as it expanded across the globe. He started his own company, AAA Livestock Services, in 2000.
Mr Adnam helped to establish the Northern Territory Livestock Exporters’ Association (NTLEA) and became its first President. He is a Life Member of both NTLEA and the Queensland Livestock Exporters’ Association, and has been a director of the Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council and LiveCorp.
Committed Ceny is a deserving award recipient
Nutrien Ag Solutions’ general manager, customer and business services Tom Breen presented the award to Ceny at the gala dinner and said he was impressed by the calibre of the nominees across the board.
“It has been another year for outstanding nominees.
They all demonstrated a strong commitment to their immediate roles, but also to ensuring the sustainability of the live export industry into the future,” Mr Breen said.
Ms Hussie has an extensive career across live export at a range of companies and is now in a senior management role at the Roebuck Export Depot. She works with the supply chain until the point of livestock departing Australia and promotes the importance of calm, holistic livestock management as well as ensuring animal welfare compliance.
ALEC chief executive officer, Mark Harvey-Sutton, noted that Ms Hussie was nominated by an industry peer and that her commitment to the success of the industry made her stand out.
“Ceny is willing to take on leadership responsibilities and always provides outstanding service to clients and exporters.
“She encourages growth in people who work with her and is devoted to the northern pastoral industry,” he said.
“The calibre of all our nominees continues to demonstrate the commitment that our emerging leaders have to the innovation, sustainability and high standards of the Australian livestock export industry. In particular, Ceny has shown leadership and the panel was impressed with how she understood the importance of her role in achieving optimal animal welfare outcomes as well as a successful commercial outcome for her customers.
“She is a deserving recipient, and we look forward to seeing her future impact on the industry.”
