The Bureau of Meteorology’s climate outlook for October to December suggests a 60 to 80 percent chance of above average rainfall for many parts of Australia.
The forecast also points to an increased chance of “unusually high rainfall” for much of Queensland, parts of south-eastern South Australia including the riverland region, western Victoria and eastern Tasmania.
Unusually high rainfall is defined as the highest 20 percent of observations for the forecast period (October to December) from 1981 to 2018.
Areas where rainfall is forecast as likely to be within the typical seasonal range include parts of western WA and the southern NT.
The bureau is also forecasting an increased chance of unusually warm days and nights across most of Australia during October to December.
Above average maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to very likely (60pc to greater than 80pc chance) across most of Australia according to the latest outlook.
For October alone, maximum temperatures are likely to be in the typical seasonal range across much of the southern half of Australia, except in the south-east, and warmer than average in the north.
