AUSTRALIAN Wool Innovation will run a webinar on Thursday outlining why sheep producers should stick with wool growing rather than changing to another enterprise.

In the webinar from 7pm AEST 3 October, Agrista director John Francis will discuss the detail of his analysis of the profitability of wool-growing enterprises ‘Why stay in wool sheep?’

Mr Francis’ Australian Wool Innovation-commissioned study concluded that improving what wool growers do can deliver more value than moving to an unfamiliar enterprise option.

The webinar will cover:

The relative financial performance of wool enterprises

Variation in operating profits between enterprises

Improving financial performance over the medium-long term

The real levels of volatility in wool enterprises

There will also be practical tips for:

Financial and productivity assessment

Finding the key features that deliver greater profitability

Managing a grazing system, including matching feed supply with animal demand and improved feed utilisation

Sheep health and welfare

Managing labour requirements and contractors, including working well with your shearing team

Infrastructure investment and efficiency
