A POPULAR sheep breed guide for wool classers has been launched in app form by the Australian Wool Exchange.
AWEX has launched the free AWEX Sheep Breed Compendium App through the i-phone App Store.
The Sheep Breed Compendium is one of AWEX’s most popular publications since it was first printed in 2010. The SBC is a key reference resource for wool growers, wool classers, education and training providers, students and all industry stakeholders.
The SBC provided wool classers and other industry personnel with a ready reference on the background and history of sheep breeds found in Australia. This included a photo of each breed and a summary of their appearance, primary use(s) and wool characteristics, end uses for wool and the impact of dark and medullated fibre.
AWEX said the SBC provided valuable information on the range of sheep breeds used in Australia today and while the focus of the SBC App is on the wool characteristics of each breed, it also recognised that today’s sheep producer might have a multi-faceted approach to production.
The SBC would also be of benefit and motivation to the next generation to help increase their knowledge and understanding of sheep and wool, AWEX said.
The SBC App is available now to download through the App Store. Click here to go to the Apple store to download and search sheep breed.
The SBC App will also be released for android, i-pad and android tablet over the coming weeks.
The SBC App will also be outlined at the AWEX Wool Forum in Bendigo on Saturday, April 16. The forum will feature wool trade and AWEX speakers speaking on market trends and answering questions on industry requirements. There will also be an industry update on e-Bale.
The free forum will be held at the Bendigo Bowls Club, 169-183 Barnard St., from 9am-noon, but those wanting to attend should RSVP to phone (02) 9428 6100, fax (02) 9428 6120 or [email protected]
