AUSTRALIA’S industry-funded sheep worm information service, WormBoss, is 10 years old and now there are 2600 new reasons to subscribe to the free newsletter Paraboss News.

ParaBoss is offering $2600 in prizes to encourage sheep producers to subscribe to ParaBoss News or to update their current free subscription, and receive the latest news on worm, flystrike and lice control for sheep.

ParaBoss News is the free monthly e-newsletter from WormBoss, FlyBoss and LiceBoss. Each month, leading state and regional consultants, vets and parasitologists report on worms, flies and lice with tips for the coming month. Also included are stimulating feature articles and a quick three-question quiz to let you test your knowledge of sheep parasites.

WormBoss, FlyBoss and ParaBoss were developed by the Sheep CRC. LiceBoss was developed by Australian Wool Innovation.

ParaBoss operations manager Deb Maxwell

ParaBoss operations manager Deb Maxwell said there are about 3500 ParaBoss News subscribers, with about 7500 unique browsers on the websites each month. She would love more producers to subscribe to the newsletter and wants those who might have forgotten to update their email addresses for subscription purposes to re-subscribe and take advantage of the prize offer. Producers must subscribe in June or July this year to go into the prize draw.

“Current subscribers tell us ParaBoss News is both interesting and useful, as it alerts them to regional worm issues and upcoming parasite management tasks, as well as facts and ideas to get them thinking about the big three sheep parasites.

“While there’ll be nine lucky prize winners in our competition, all subscribers are winners as the regular information helps sheep producers to achieve practical, cost-effective parasite control.”

First prize in the ParaBoss News competition is $850 of pasture supplements from Riverina Australasia. A further eight prizes to the value of $220 each can also be won: four pails of Mouseoff® BD Rodent Blocks from Animal Control Technologies Australia and four vouchers for products from Allflex Australia.

WormBoss provides tips, tools and training

WormBoss now includes regional worm control programs and drench decision guides, a drench database, an online learning program and a worm control workshop.

Professionals and students from across Australia are already WormBoss-trained and each month the ParaBoss News is emailed to more than 3200 subscribers. It even has the infamous WormBoss song, sung in a throaty growl by the original ‘Boss’, Arthur Le Feuvre, who is retiring this month. Download the song and lyrics at wormboss.com.au.

WormBoss was a timely development by the Sheep CRC and its partners, with generous extra support from Australian Wool Innovation. Over 10 years, Wormboss has become the premier resource for sheep worm control information endorsed by all sectors of the sheep industry.

WormBoss and its sister sites, FlyBoss and LiceBoss, are now funded by Meat and Livestock Australia and Australian Wool Innovation, with growing industry financial support. ParaBoss is funded by MLA and AWI, and coordinated by the University of New England with industry oversight.
