R.M. Williams executive Emma Foster-Geering has been announced as the latest member of the Sheep Sustainability Framework Sustainability Steering Group.

Ms Foster-Geering is R.M. Williams’ senior manager of sustainability and is regarded as a seasoned professional in the field, with more than 15 years’ experience driving sustainability programs for major brands in Australia, the United Kingdom and Germany.

A statement from Meat & Livestock Australia said throughout her career, Ms Foster-Geering has developed a deep understanding of the wool industry and its sustainability credentials, making her an ideal candidate for the SSF’s Sustainability Steering Group.

Ms Foster-Geering said she had had the privilege of working on many projects to engage with the Australian wool industry in the past and on the improvement of conditions for environmental, social and animal welfare goals.

“I am sympathetic to the challenges facing producers and the industry more widely and can see opportunities to add value to the SSF and collaborate with stakeholders on our shared goals.”

MLA said as R.M. Williams continue to expand sustainability efforts on natural fibres prioritising leather, cotton and wool, Emma’s appointment to the SSF Sustainability Steering Group is an intentional step in recognising the importance of supporting the industry and Australian farmers on the journey.

The Sheep Sustainability Framework (SSF) monitors and measures industry performance against priorities aligned with the four themes. It informs planning, management, and evaluation of activities at an industry level and helps to ensure Australia are a global leader in sustainable sheep production.

Sheep Producers Australia and WoolProducers Australia lead the SSF, with Australian Wool Innovation and Meat & Livestock Australia providing funding, strategic advice and secretariat support.

SPA and WPA appointed an independent Sustainability Steering Group (SSG), made up of representatives from across the value chain with diverse areas of skills and expertise, to lead the process.

This SSG guides the framework in its role of monitoring, measuring, and reporting on the performance of the Australian sheep and wool industry against sustainability priorities.
