AN inland low pressure trough and moist air generated scattered heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, some severe, across the northern interior of Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland and northern New South Wales over the week.

Weekly rainfall totals of 25-50 mm were recorded across scattered regions of northern and eastern Australia.

Weekly rainfall totals of 50-300 mm were recorded in north-eastern New South Wales and parts of the north and south-east of the Northern Territory and particularly over large area of central and eastern Queensland.

There was continued minor to major flooding across multiple catchments in Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Cold fronts and associated low pressure troughs brought scattered showers and isolated storms to Tasmania, southern regions of Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria.

Weekly rainfall totals of 25-100 mm were recorded in the south-west of Western Australia, western Tasmania and eastern Victoria.

The highest weekly total (at a Bureau gauge) was 280 mm at Yappar River in Queensland.

The highest daily total at a Bureau of Meteorology gauge was 161.5 mm at Tambo Post Office in Queensland in the 24 hours to 9am on 02 April.

Townsville Aero has recorded 2452.8 mm in the year-to-date to 9am on 7 April, exceeding the annual record of 2399.8 mm in 2000 (85 years of data).
