Meat Business Women extends awards application deadline

Sheep Central March 2, 2026

MEAT Business Women has extended applications for its 2026 Australian One to Watch and Meat Business Woman of the Year awards until midnight Sunday 8 March.

The extension has been announced to provide additional time for women across the supply chain to apply or be nominated.

MBW said the extension follows strong early engagement, but reflects orgainsation’s commitment to ensuring talented women from every part of the industry, particularly regional areas, small businesses and operational roles, have the opportunity to step forward or be recognised.

MBW Australian chair Stacey McKenna said the extension is about ensuring the awards reflect the full breadth of talent across the industry.

“We know there are exceptional women right across our supply chain who don’t always put themselves forward.

“Extending the deadline gives businesses, colleagues and individuals a final opportunity to recognise leadership and potential that deserves to be seen. Visibility matters,” she said.

“When women see others recognised, it shifts what feels possible.”

The 2025 One to Watch Award winner Rachel Gartshore said the recognition has had a lasting impact on her career.

“Receiving the One to Watch award has been a pivotal moment in my career,” she said.

“Beyond the recognition, it has given me space to reflect on my contribution to the industry, invest in my personal development, and connect with an incredible network of women across the meat supply chain.”

MBW said with women representing 33.5 percent of the industry workforce, visibility of female leadership remains a critical lever for change. The awards form part of MBW’s broader ambition through the Food Business Charter to lift female representation in the food industry to 40pc by 2035.

The One to Watch Award recognises emerging female leaders who are demonstrating initiative, influence and high potential within their organisations. Open to self-nominations, it encourages women to back themselves and invest in their future. The Meat Business Woman of the Year Award honours an established leader who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the sector, shaping culture, capability and industry progress. Each winner will receive $5,000 to invest in professional and personal development, reinforcing MBW’s focus on tangible career advancement.

Finalists will be announced at the 2026 MBW National Conference on 25 March at Dockside, Cockle Bay Wharf, Sydney, with winners formally recognised at a dedicated industry event in July 2026. Applications and nominations close Sunday 8 March at 11:59pm via the Meat Business Women website.
