Strong restocker lamb demand continues on AuctionsPlus

These mixed sex Poll Dorset cross February-March 2026 drop lambs from Wellington in NSW sold for $213 or $18.20 a kg cwt on AuctionsPlus last week.

RESTOCKER lambs sold for more than $18 a kg carcase weight on AuctionsPlus last week, with several Merino lines making more than $15/kg cwt.

AuctionsPlus on Wednesday said solid buyer confidence across restocker lambs and breeding sheep pushed the market higher last week, with the AuctionsPlus Restocker Lamb Indicator (ARLI) lifting 50c to 1366c/kg dressed weight.

The total commercial sheep offerings came in at 37,403 head, down 15 percent on the previous week, while the overall clearance rate improved 13 percentage points to 85pc and the amount sold above reserve rose $25 to average $46/head.

Topping the restocker lamb offering was 420 mixed sex Poll Dorset new season lambs from a Wellington New South Wales producer through Peter Milling & Company that made $213, or $7.27/kg lwt and $18.20/kg cwt.

Elders Cunnamulla clients S.J. & C.E. Booth sold 1100 August-September 2025 drop shorn Merino wether lambs averaging 26.6kg cwt for $156 or $5.86/kg lwt or $15.75/kg cwt, and another 560 heavier lambs (34.4kg av) for $172 or $5/kg lwt or $13.33/kg cwt.

AuctionsPlus said first cross ewe lambs were the standout performers of the week, averaging 633c/kg and $277/head from a 100pc clearance of 1400 head, with prices ranging from $258- $290/head. Composite and other breed lambs were the biggest movers in the lamb categories, gaining 121c to average 629c/kg and returning $232/head. Scanned in lamb composite/other breed ewes peaked at $410/head from 2340 head offered for a 79pc clearance. Sound mouth first cross ewes recorded the sharpest week-on-week improvement in the joined ewe categories, lifting $196 to average $383/head from a 100pc clearance.

AuctionsPlus said joined ewes accounted for more than 14,500 head across all categories, with SIL Merino ewes leading supply at 6500 head and averaging $319/head at a strong 98pc clearance, up $41. Unjoined ewes totalled more than 2,300 head, with shedding breed ewes achieving 100pc clearance at an average of $201/head from 960 head offered. Merino ewe hoggets eased $84 to average $169/head at a 55pc clearance from 870 head.

New South Wales dominated supply with 24,500 head, representing the largest share of national listings, though down 10pc week-on-week. Victoria contributed 7300 head, also easing 19pc on the previous week. South Australia’s supply lifted 31pc to 4000 head, while Queensland’s fell sharply by nearly half of last week’s number to 1660 head.

From Wycheproof, Victoria, 275 SIL 1.7-3.2 year-old White Dorper/White Suffolk ewes weighing 53kg sold for $352 to a buyer in Mildura, VIC.

From Nyngan, NSW, 500 SIL 4.8 year-old Merino ewes weighing 67kg made $366 with a buyer in Tullibigeal, NSW.
