WESTCOAST Wools area manager Justin Haydock is on a winning streak lately.
Just days after he was crowned the country’s top young wool broker by the National Council of Wool Selling Brokers of Australia, he will wed his fiancé in Dwellingup on Saturday.
At the annual Wool Week dinner in Melbourne last Thursday night, incoming NCWSBA president Alistair Calvert presented Mr Haydock with his award before his peers and other wool industry stakeholders.
He said Mr Haydock performed very well in his presentation at the NCWSBA annual general meeting.
“The passion he showed was exceptional, as it was with everybody, but certainly his perseverance was something that I noted, I thought here is someone who is really determined.
“So his perseverance and persistence were exceptional.”
Mr Calvert said there were six entries in the Young Broker of the Year award, and three very high caliber finalists were considered.
The finalists also included Nutrien Ag Solutions wool area manager at Bendigo Nicole Davies and AWN wool and sheep specialist at Jamestown, Jared Phillips.
Mr Haydock is the Westcoast Wools Responsible Wool Standards manager in Perth and said he didn’t prepare a speech and apologized for not wearing a tie.

“I didn’t think I was going to win, the other candidates were absolutely fantastic.
“They’ve done a lot in their careers and you can see how passionate they are as well.”
Mr Haydock said of all the group that participated in the NCWSBA development program, they were the two he has stayed in touch with.
“They’re fantastic people and next year have a crack as well, because you guys deserve it too.”
Mr Haydock thanked Westcoast Wool & Livestock director Brad Faithfull for supporting him for the past 10 years and he introduced his “beautiful soon-to-be wife Gabbi (Sturtridge).”
“Thank you very much, we are actually getting married next week.
“She is my biggest support person, she supports me in anything I want to do, she has to slow me down sometimes because I am quite ambitious,” he said.
“She is the only person who has ever been able to put me back in my place.”
Mr Haydock also thanked the NCWSBA for continuing the award and said he was honoured to receive it.
“I think it’s fantastic and it’s really exciting to hear where you are looking to go next year, by involving growers and exporters as well, it’s great.”
The award was sponsored by AWEX and the AWTA.
