MLA starts process to elect two non-executive directors

Sheep Central May 11, 2026

MEAT & Livestock Australia is looking to appoint two non-executive directors as part of its normal board renewal process.

Current directors Russell Lethbridge and Lucinda Hogan are at the end of their three-year terms this year. All incumbent directors have until the end of the application period to choose whether or not they wish to restand and submit their application.

MLA said it is seeking candidates with deep production knowledge and a strong understanding of modern livestock systems, alongside broader experience that will support the organisation’s strategic priorities and future growth.

The two director roles identified for 2026 are in beef and sheep meat production.

MLA said beef candidates will bring extensive experience in modern northern production systems, including pasture management, genetics and nutrition. Experience or understanding of research, development and adoption (RD&A), supply chains and emerging technologies will be highly regarded.

Sheep meat candidates will bring extensive experience in contemporary sheep meat production systems, including pasture management, genetics and nutrition, MLA said. Additional knowledge of RD&A, supply chains and emerging technologies will also be well regarded.

MLA said it operates under a skills-based board model, with directors bringing a balance of expertise across livestock production, business management, research and development, marketing and governance.

Non-executive directors are appointed for three-year terms, with positions filled through a rigorous selection process led by the independent MLA Board Selection Committee and endorsed by MLA members at the Annual General Meeting.

MLA said it is committed to maintaining a diverse and high-performing board that reflects the breadth of Australia’s red meat industry. Candidates from a wide range of backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Applications are now open and will close on Sunday, 7 June 2026. Candidates are required to submit a cover letter and CV outlining their experience and suitability for the role. The process is being managed in partnership with Pacific Search Partners.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview in August, with successful candidates to be presented to members for election at MLA’s 2026 Annual General Meeting.

To express your interest please email your application and CV to [email protected] quoting MLA in the subject box, and/or call (03) 9631 1500 for a confidential discussion.

Replies will be to the email address used for your application. Closing date: Sunday 7th June 2026.
