MEAT Business Women Australia has opened applications for its 2025 One to Watch Award that celebrates and empowers future female leaders in the sector.
Applications for the $5000 initiative closed on 5 February.
MEAT Business Women Australia chair Stacey McKenna said the One to Watch Award isn’t just about recognising talent—it’s about accelerating change in an industry that has long been male-dominated.
“We’re showing the world what’s possible when women are given the tools and recognition they deserve.
“This award highlights the transformative power of female leadership and the potential to reshape the future of the meat industry,” she said.
MBWA said the Australian meat industry, traditionally dominated by men, continues to face challenges in achieving gender equity. Programs like the One to Watch Award are vital for addressing these systemic barriers, providing a platform to support women’s career progression and serving as a model for other industries on how targeted initiatives can create lasting impact, the organisation said.
Ms McKenna said companies with more women in leadership outperform their peers in innovation, culture, and profitability.
“By addressing the pipeline issue now, we’re ensuring a better future for the meat industry and for Australia as a whole.”
Women aged 35 and under in the Australian meat industry can apply for the One to Watch Award by 5 February 2025. A panel of industry leaders will select the winner, to be announced at the Meat Business Women Australia National Conference on 5 March 2025 in Brisbane.
“This is more than an award—it’s a movement to champion bold, driven women who are already reshaping our industry,” Ms McKenna said.
“We want to inspire other industries to follow suit and recognise the untapped potential in their workforces.”
