Elmore speakers to report on wool and sheep meat markets

Sheep Central October 2, 2026

Shearing for Kids with Cancer returns to the Elmore Field Days next week.

WOOL producers will hear the latest on the world’s leading certification scheme for non-mulesed production – the Responsible Wool Standard — at the Elmore Machinery Field Days in Victoria next week.

EFD shearing shed chair and Australian Wool Innovation Victorian industry relations officer Holly Byrne said on 7 October there will be a presentation on Textile Exchange’s RWS scheme and the transition to the new standard: Materials Matter.

“We will be discussing what Materials Matter’s RWS is, how wool growers can get involved and what market access may be available for those who are part of the RWS Scheme.

“A great session not to be missed for wool growers,” she said.

Holly said the RWS presentation from 9.30-10.30am in the field days Shearing Shed will be given by Textile Exchange’s newly appointed, senior manager of engagement, Clementine Hurley, who is based in Australia.

Holly said on 8 October from 9:30-10:30am Meat & Livestock Australia market information manager Stuart Bull will report on the state of the lamb and mutton markets.

“This year has been a big one in the sale yards, but who is buying our meat, how long will prices stick around for and what can growers be doing to hit those markets.

“No doubt this will be a session of much value.  With record highs, improved seasons in many areas and a hum of positivity in the air.”

Holly has taken on the leadership of the Shear Shed program after the retirement of Bill Johnson who had been shearing at the field days for 26 years and the retirement of chair Ged McCormick who had dedicated years of service to the shearing shed program and the field days.

The Shearing Shed program will also again feature the Shearing for Kids with Cancer team doing shearing demonstrations every day between 9am-3pm.

The Elmore Machinery Field Days run from 7-8 October.
