Chef Tarek spreads Aussie red meat message across Middle East

Sheep Central May 16, 2016

Dubai-based Middle Eastern Master Chef Tarek Ibrahim is continuing on his campaign to educate the world about the quality and versatility of Australian red meat.

Having trained 2000 chefs in the Middle East/North African region in 2014–15 and gathered a television audience of 300 million and a Facebook audience of almost 50,000 followers, Tarek has had a busy month in Australia, filming a new TV series, Australian Adventures with Chef Tarek.

The face of Meat & Livestock Australia’s Middle East red meat marketing campaign, chef Tarek travelled to the Gold Coast, Sydney, Dubbo in central NSW and Melbourne to film episodes for the TV program, which will showcase Australian produce, particularly beef and lamb.

The three-part series will be broadcast by Fatafeat, the first and only Arab food channel in the Middle East, and now broadcasting through BEIN which is the region’s largest pay TV network.

Chef Tarek has previously hosted his own TV program ‘100 Lahma’ (100 meat dishes) and ‘Mashawi’ (Grilling), both of which have showcased recipes using Australian red meat prepared with Middle Eastern flavours and influences.

MLA supported the trip and was successful in gaining $55,000 in funding towards the production from a grant from the Council for Australian-Arab Relations. The Gold Coast leg of the journey was sponsored by the Gold Coast Tourism Corporation.
