AWTA agrees on constitutional changes to merge with AWEX

Sheep Central November 5, 2026

AUSTRALIA’S wool testing authority AWTA Ltd has agreed to constitutional changes to allow a merger with the Australian Wool Exchange.

At its annual general meeting last month, the AWTA board members considered a merger proposal that will also be put to the AWEX AGM on 19 November.

AWTA Ltd managing director Michael Jackson said the members of AWTA unanimously approved recommended changes to its constitution to facilitate the proposed merger with AWEX, at its recent AGM.

In the company’s 2026 annual report, AWTA Ltd chairman Gordon Dickinson said the respective boards had met and agreed to develop an appropriate merger proposal for consideration at each company’s AGM this year.

“If this proceeds, we are confident it will secure and improve the future of important services delivered by both companies, enhancing value for the whole Australian wool industry,” he said.

In July this year, both bodies said they had agreed to commence formal discussions to explore a potential merger of the two industry-owned organisations.

The proposed merger has been welcomed by the peak grower, broker and exporter bodies, which have representatives on the AWEX and AWTA boards.
