A BIG effort by friends and frenemies of Sentdale Wool director Jim Michell and his younger sister Ronnie has raised $56,122 for leukaemia research and support.
Jim has reported the final donation tally was well above the initial $20,000 target for blood cancer research and support for people like Ronnie, who is battling acute myeloid leukaemia.
Jim’s mate Richard Butcher from Nutrien bought $200 worth of raffle tickets to shave Jim’s head in Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave charity event at the Yennora Distribution Centre on 17 December last year.
“He’s a good mate of mine, but he wanted use a proper shearing handpiece on my head.”
Jim said most of the money raised came from wool donated by brokers and traders – including bales from Nutrien, AWN, Fletchers, Elders, Macdonald-Carmichael, Jemalong and Schute Bell.
The charity effort was co-ordinated by Jim’s niece Courtney Lister and son Trey, and four of Ronnie’s children and two grandchildren also had their heads shaves to support Ronnie’s continued treatment for the disease in Melbourne.
