Young scanned in-lamb Merino ewe prices lift on AuctionsPlus

These July-August 2017-drop Poll Dorset cross lambs, 21.8kg cwt, sold for $139 at Cootamundra, NSW, on AuctionsPlus last week.

PRICES for young scanned in-lamb Merino ewes improved on AuctionsPlus last week.

The online saleyard reported prices for 2-4 year-old Merino ewes as averaging $31 higher to $168 last week.

The top price of $184 was paid for a line of 3-4 year-old ewes at The Rock in New South Wales that were scanned in-lamb to White Suffolk rams. The freshly shorn ewes weighed 64kgs lwt and were sold to a Holbrook buyer.

Sheep and lamb numbers fell 2099 on AuctionsPlus last week to 45,311 head.

Older Merino breeders averaged $118, a drop of $6 on the previous week’s average price. Quality varied and prices ranged from $87 up to $161 for a line of 58kg 4.5-6.5 year-old scanned in-lamb ewes at Bookham in NSW carrying a 6.5cm fleece.

Store lamb numbers steady

Store lamb numbers remained steady online, with 10,551 head offered last week. Merino ewe and ewe lambs continued to comprise most of the listings with 13,000 offered, a decrease of 2000.

Merino wether and wether lamb offerings dropped by just over 2000 head. Merino wether lambs averaged $98, and reached a top price of $118.50 for a line of 6-7 month-old lambs from Burren Junction, NSW, weighing 33kg and with a 7.5cm fleece.

A line of Merino store wether lambs at Broken Hill in NSW were sold to a buyer in Longreach, Queensland, 1700 kms away. Two lots of 4.5-5 year-old Merino wethers from Bothwell in Tasmania sold to a Bendigo buyer in Victoria for $129.50 and $107.50.

Frist cross ewe offering almost doubles

First cross ewe lambs and hoggets almost doubled in numbers on AuctionsPlus last week to 9915, but the average price dropped $15 to $173. The top price of $190.50 for first cross ewe lambs was achieved by three lines of 9-10 month olds weighing 56kgs offered by the Kinsey Trading Trust at Trangie in NSW. They sold to buyer at Norong in Victoria. A line of first cross ewes at Dubbo in NSW, scanned in-lamb to White Suffolk rams and weighing 70kgs sold for $238.
