Young composite ewes sell to $348 on AuctionsPlus

SOUTH-WEST Victorian and southern New South Wales buyers continued to dominate online sheep and lamb bidding last week.

AuctionsPlus offered 123,883 sheep and lambs, with numbers boosted by the Cloven Hills ewe sale and the Jamestown store sheep market.

South-west Victorian buyers bought 20,382 head and 10,942 sheep and lambs went into the Riverina.

A small offering of Merino ewe lambs sold from $104.50 to $177 and averaged $134. The clearance rate was 72pc.  The top price was paid for a line of Boonooke blood ewes weighing 49kgs from Rochester, Victoria.

Merino ewe hogget prices dropped to an average of $197, making from $76 to $286. A line of ewe hoggets weighing 70kgs at Minalton, South Australia, sold for the top price. The Carrie Cowie blood hoggets went to a buyer in Coolamon, NSW.

Young Merino ewes sell to $237

Young Merino breeders 2-4 years-old sold from $128 to $237 and averaged $183. A line of 2-2.5 year-old ewes at Copeville, SA, weighing 64kgs made the top price. At Simpson in Victoria, a line of three year-old Coonemarra blood ewes weighing 49kgs made $202.

Proven Merino breeders four year-old up sold from $67.50 to $197.50 and averaged $144. A line of 5-5.5 year-old Glendemar blood ewes weighing 68kgs at Kingston, SA, sold for the top price. At Gilgandra, NSW, a line of 4.5-5.5 year old Kerin Poll blood ewes weighing 43kgs made $163.

Merino wether lambs sell to $139

Merino wether lambs sold from $50.50 to $139 and averaging $99. The sales cleared 66pc of the offering. The top price was paid for a line July/August 2019 drop wether lambs weighing 42kgs at Gladstone, SA.

Nareen Station at Nareen in south-west Victoria offered 5670 August/September 2019 drop Merino wether lambs over 12 lots. They sold from $111 to $128 to buyers in Victoria. Older Merino wethers sold from $83 to $156, averaging $134. At Woodside in Victoria, a line of three year-old Hazeldean blood wethers weighing 60kgs sold for the top price. Hazeldean Pty Ltd’s 1755 27-29 month-old Merino wethers weighing 48kgs sold for $142 in three lines.

First cross ewe lambs make to $254

First cross ewe lambs sold from $102 to $254, averaging $182, on AuctionsPlus last week.  The top price was paid for a line of June/July 2019 drop ewe lambs weighing 47kgs at Euroa in Victoria. First cross ewe hoggets sold from $180 to $291, averaging $225. At Rupanyup in Victoriam, a line of 18-19 month-old unjoined ewes weighing 67kgs sold for the top price. At Crookwell in NSW, a line of 14-15 month-old ewes weighing 53kgs made $241.

Composite ewes sell for $348

Other highlights include a line of 100 unjoined two year-old composite ewes weighing 80kgs making $348. At Willunga in South Australia, a line of mixed age Dorper/White Dorper ewes and lambs made $240. The ewes weighed 57kgs and the lambs were 1-4 months-old.

The Cloven Hills ewe sale offered 4023 head over 22 lots. Composite ewe lambs sold from $150 to $228 and averaged $170. The top price was achieved for a line of July/August 2019 drop ewe lambs weighing 42kgs.

New season lamb offering declines

AuctionsPlus offered 39,028 new season lambs last week, just over 5000 fewer. Highlights included:

–         June/July 19’ drop, 26kg, 2nd X Poll Dorset mixed sex suckers from KALKALLO, VIC sold for $115.50/444c live

–         Sept/Oct 19’ drop, 21kg, 1st X Dorset/Merino mixed sex suckers from GOULBURN, NSW sold for $86.50/406c live

–         Sept 19’ drop, 30kg, 1st X White Suffolk/Composite mixed sex store lambs from COOLAC, NSW sold for $119.50/388c live

–         Aug/Sept 19’ drop, 30kg, 1st X Composite/Southdown mixed sex suckers from DIGBY, VIC sold for $115/383c live

–         Jul/Sept ’19 drop, 32kg, 1st X Coolalee/Merino mixed sex lambs from TOOBEAH, QLD sold for $120.50/376c live

–         Aug/Sept 19’ drop 45kg, 2nd X Poll Dorset mixed sex suckers from ARARAT, VIC sold for $159/351c live
