Wool Week face-to-face events cancelled in Melbourne

Sheep Central, July 6, 2020

AUSTRALIA’S Wool Week events in Victoria’s capital Melbourne have been cancelled as COVID-19 disruptions continued in the state.

Australian Wool Industries said Wool Week events planned for 27-28 August have been cancelled at the RACV Club venue.

AWI secretariat executive manager Bianca Heaney said this included the AWIS luncheon/forum and wool Industry dinner, and all RACV meeting room events.

“Due to the response from member associations who usually hold their annual general meeting during Wool Week, the existing restrictions imposed by the Victorian Government including travel and for the safety of our members, the Wool Week events during 27-28 August 2020 will be cancelled with the RACV Club.”

However, Ms Heaney said AGMs will still go ahead via Zoom or other video conferencing platforms, and the AWIS member associations will make their own arrangements for their AGMs.

“This year has certainly been a challenging one for all and there seems to be no end in sight at the moment.

“I am sure you were all looking forward to our annual catch up at Wool Week but as most of you have probably guessed by now that this will not happen this year,” she said.

Presentation details for the annual Australian Wool Industry Medals are yet to be finalised.

Brokers award presentations delayed

National Council of Wool Selling Brokers of Australia executive director Chris Wilcox said due to the on-going COVID-19 limits on event attendance and the interstate travel restrictions, the NCWSBA board has chosen to hold its AGM by Zoom and postpone other events. He said the presentations by finalists in this year’s NCWSBA Wool Broker Award will be held later in the year when face-to-face restrictions are hopefully, eased. The NCWSBA Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, 27th August.

The annual Nanjing Wool Market Conference in China was also recently cancelled for this year and will be held next in September 2021.
