Wool growers urged to update WoolPoll contact details

WOOL growers across Australia are being urged to update their contact information with Australian Wool Innovation prior to the 2024 WoolPoll levy ballot.

Growers must ensure they receive a WoolPoll voting entitlement letter, voting papers and the Voter Information Kit.

WoolPoll is a voluntary vote of wool levy payers who have paid at least $100 in wool levies over the past three years. This year eligible growers will vote on four levy options – zero, 1 percent, 1.5pc and 2pc. The current levy rate is 1.5pc.

WoolPoll chair Rich Keniry said it is critical that wool growers across the country update their details, particularly if their address or business entity has changed over the past three years.

“It’s vital that woolgrowers take part in WoolPoll24 – by voting they’re having a say in what they’ll pay and what they’ll get back in return.

“This only comes around every three years so don’t miss this opportunity because of something as straightforward as an out-of-date email address or phone number,” he said.

“Wool growers should read the Voter Information Memorandum, have conversations with neighbours, managers and suppliers to understand what different rates would look like for their property and the industry.

“Most importantly, wool growers need to vote. It takes five minutes to read the Voter Information Kit when it arrives,” Mr Keniry said.

“They can vote online or simply return the kit which is mailed directly to eligible voters.

“Voters can have their say through a self-addressed mail, email, or fax – whatever suits the best.”

Voting opens on Friday 20 September 2024 and closes on 1 November.

Under the Wool Services Privatisation (Wool Levy Poll) Regulations 2003, AWI must form an industry panel, known as the WoolPoll panel, comprising eligible levy payer representatives. The role of the WoolPoll panel is to confirm that the draft forms and the process for conducting the WoolPoll ballot have been examined and assessed as appropriate.
