Rainfall totals between 50mm and 100mm were recorded in pockets along the west coast of Western Australian, East Gippsland, and the southern coast of New South Wales over the past week, while all of the NT, most of Queensland, WA, SA and northern and eastern Tasmania received little or no rainfall.
Other areas to recieve rain of between between 10 mm and 50 mm were the South West Land Division, Gascoyne, and parts of the Pilbara and southern coast in Western Australia, coastal southeastern South Australia, coastal southwest and much of central to eastern Victoria, southwestern Tasmania, large parts of southern and central New South Wales, and small pockets of east coast Queensland.
At the beginning of the week, a low pressure system approaching the southeastern States from the west of Tasmania generated a narrow band of cloud ahead of the associated cold front. The system continued to track in a northeasterly direction over the following days, bringing a significant cold outbreak which penetrated as far north as the Granite Belt in southern Queensland. Light to moderate falls were recorded in much of the southeast, with light falls extending as far north as southern Queensland, and falling as snow in elevated regions. The low pressure system deepened as it tracked southeast as an East Coast Low, bringing heavier falls to southeastern New South Wales and East Gippsland around mid-week.
A surface trough extending from the cold front also swept across the Eucla coast in Western Australia at the beginning of the week, bringing light rainfall to the southern coastline of Western Australia and southern South Australia.
During the week, a rainband developed over southwest Western Australia. A surface trough and a series of cold fronts tracked across the west and south of Western Australia, generating moderate to heavy falls in the Gascoyne and much of the South West Land Division. A moist southeasterly onshore flow brought light rainfall to parts of the east coast of Queensland.
