Weekly rainfall update + rainfall outlook 23 July 2024

TROUGHS extending from a low pressure system in the Tasman Sea brought 15 to 50 mm of rain across Victoria, Tasmania and elevated areas in southern New South Wales, and totals of more than 100 mm for ranges in north-eastern Victoria, in the 24 hours to 9 am on 16 July.

Cold fronts swept through south-west Western Australia late on 17 July and moved into south-eastern Australia from 19 July, bringing widespread rainfall to southern Australia and snow to alpine areas.

Weekly rainfall totals of 25-100 mm were recorded along the south-west coast of Western Australia, in Tasmania, south-east South Australia, elevated areas in southern New South Wales and much of Victoria, including areas that have been driest on record since February 2024.

Weekly totals more than 100 mm were recorded in central Victoria and parts of Tasmania.

The highest weekly total was 207.6 mm at Mount Baw Baw (Victoria), which also recorded the highest daily total of 116.8 mm in the 24 hours to 9 am on 16 July.
