WIDESPREAD thunderstorms, some severe, impacted parts of south-eastern Queensland and north-eastern New South Wales on 8 and 9 October resulting in heavy falls, flash flooding, high hail accumulations, and reports of locally giant hail — more than 5 cm.
Thunderstorms and showers impacted parts of the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne and Western Australia’s interior on 9 and 10 October, and parts of Queensland and the Northern Territory on the 12 and 13 October.
During the week, there were showers across the north tropical coast and Tablelands district of Queensland due to onshore airflow, while several cold fronts moved across Tasmania with light to moderate daily rainfall.
Weekly rainfall totals greater than 15 mm and smaller areas with totals between 25 to 50 mm, were recorded in parts of the west and north of Western Australia, in the north of the Northern Territory, eastern Queensland, north-eastern New South Wales and western and southern Tasmania.
Weekly totals greater than 50 mm were recorded in isolated areas along the Queensland and north-eastern New South Wales coast.
The highest weekly total at a bureau gauge was 201.5 mm at Murwillumbah (Bray Park) in New South Wales, including the highest daily rainfall total of 183 mm in the 24 hours to 9 am on 10 October.
