Weekly rainfall update + rain outlook 16 August 2023

EARLY in the week, a cold front brought rainfall totals of up to 20 mm in south-west Western Australia and southern Australia, followed by another front later in the week, with showers across Tasmania.

During the weekend, a low pressure trough brought showers and thunderstorms to Western Australia and South Australia and rain to New South Wales on Sunday night.

Weekly rainfall totals of 50 to 100 mm for western Tasmania and small pockets of tropical Queensland.

Weekly rainfall totals of 15 to 50mm for south-west Western Australia, the Victorian Alps, south-east South Australia, and south-east New South Wales.

Weekly rainfall totals of 1 to 10 mm for southern Australia, areas of coastal Queensland and the Top End.

The highest daily rainfall total during the week at a Bureau of Meteorology gauge was 48.2 mm at Cape Moreton Lighthouse (Queensland) to 9 am on 8 August, and the highest weekly rainfall total (at a bureau gauge) was 88 mm at Cape Moreton Lighthouse, Queensland.
