Victorian FMD webinars kick off tonight at 7pm

Sheep Central August 1, 2022

VICTORIAN livestock producers are being invited to join webinars on Foot and Mouth Disease in the next week, starting tonight at 7pm.

The webinars will feature Agriculture Victoria veterinary specialists on how the state is preparing for and will respond to an FMD outbreak.

The first webinar will include Victoria’s chief veterinary officer Graeme Cooke and will run from 7-8pm tonight. The second webinar will run on Thursday 4 August between 7-8pm.

Agriculture Victoria said good biosecurity is paramount for protecting our economy, environment and community from the negative impacts of pests and diseases.

There are several risk factors that are contributing to an increased threat of a biosecurity incursion in Victoria/Australia.

State, federal and local governments, livestock producers and other supply chain participants including livestock agents, transporters and contractors all share responsibilities in minimising biosecurity risks and impacts to the industry, the Victorian department said.

Other webinar presenters include principal veterinary officer – emergency animal disease, Dr Megan Scott and senior veterinary officer – animal health and welfare, Dr Jeff Cave.

Topics to be discussed will include:

  • What is FMD and how is Agriculture Victoria preparing for an outbreak?
  • What to expect on Day 1 of an outbreak and what is a livestock standstill?
  • What actions and farm biosecurity measures can you do now
