Sheep Central, November 1, 2021

The benefits of electronic ear tags in sheep and cattle is covered in the podcasts.

UTE-FRIENDLY podcasts about electronic sheep and cattle identification benefits, a wool industry perspective on animal disease preparedness and biosecurity tips for livestock purchasers are now available.

Animal Health Australia said learning how animal health and biosecurity issues impact the red meat and wool industries is now easier than ever with new podcasts from the South Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regions, AHA and Livestock SA.

The eight-episode series features topics including the importance of individual animal electronic identification (EID) for traceability and market access, a wool industry perspective on emergency animal disease (EAD) preparedness and biosecurity tips for livestock purchasers.

The series explores key animal health and biosecurity topics and is designed to be listened to while sitting in the tractor or utility.

Program manager of South Australia’s Red Meat and Wool Growth Program, Emily Mellor, said the series was a great addition to the program’s library of resources.

“The Tech Talk podcasts offer something for everyone, and we hope that by listening it will motivate producers to explore how to implement learnings to their own business,” she said.

Animal Health Australia extension manager Emily Buddle said she was excited to have leading industry experts sharing their knowledge for producers to listen to at their convenience.

“Animal health and biosecurity information is critical for all producers’ businesses, so to be able to present it in such an accessible way is fantastic,” she said.

Livestock SA biosecurity extension officer Pene Keynes said it was great to work collaboratively with different organisations to achieve positive outcomes for the South Australian red meat and wool sectors.

“Working with Animal Health Australia and the Department of Primary Industries and Regions to develop resources that support producers to boost their on-farm biosecurity is a great outcome for the South Australian livestock sectors.”

The podcast series is available on the PIRSA website or subscribe to Livestock Tech Talks podcast through Apple PodcastsSpotify or search for ‘Livestock Tech Talks’ in your preferred podcast directory.

The podcasts are funded by the South Australian Government’s Red Meat and Wool Growth Program as part of the Tech Talk podcast series and were developed by the South Australian Livestock Biosecurity Extension Project.
