STRONGER auction demand for wool flowed through to the online platform AuctionsPlus last week.

AuctionsPlus Wool operations manager Tom Rookyard said after increased business with overseas mills, the AWEX Eastern Market Indicator gained 25 cents on Wednesday and eased 6 cents on Thursday to close at 1574c/kg clean last week.

Mr Rookyard said the AWEX EMI is sitting 207c/kg lower than its mark on 15 November 2018 of 1781c/kg clean.

The market’s strength led to AuctionsPlus selling 755 bales of wool.

The top price lot online last week was 1600c/kg greasy, or 2192c/kg clean, for a bale of 15.9 micron AAAFINE Merino fleece declared as non-mulesed. The line yielded 73 percent, with an average staple length of 73mm, a tensile strength of 46 Newtons/kilotex and 1.8pc vegetable matter content. The lot was offered by Australian Wool Network and was branded Royslea J On Its Side In A Cir.

Online a nine-bale line of 16.2 micron line of AAAFM with a yield of 74.8pc, 83mm staple length, 33N/kt tensile strength and 0.6pc vm that sold for 1555c/kg greasy, or 2079c/kg clean.

A five-bale line of 17 micron AAAM made 1499c/kg greasy, or 1985c/kg clean. The line yielded 75.5pc, with a staple length of 105mm, tensile strength of 42N/kt and 0.2pc vm.

A 13-bale line of 18.4 micron AAM sold for 1425c/kg greasy, or 1926c/kg clean. The line yielded 74pc with a staple length of 73mm, a tensile strength of 36N/kt and 0.2pc vm.

A seven-bale line of 19.6 micron AAQM with a yield of 75.3pc, staple length of 99mm, tensile strength of 50N/kt, with 0.4pc vm sold for 1365c/kg greasy, or 1813c/kg clean.

A five-bale line of 20.6 micron AAM sold for 1345c/kg clean, or 1740c/kg greasy. The line yielded 77.3pc with a staple length of 107mm, a tensile strength of 47N/kt and 0.2pc vm.

An eight-bale line of 21.4 micron AAM with a yield of 72.2pc, staple length of 109mm, tensile strength of 28N/kt and 0.5pc vm made 1240c/kg greasy, or 1717c/kg clean.

The top-priced pieces line sold on AuctionsPlus last week was 10 bales of 16.3 micron MBKN that made 1355c/kg greasy, or 1944c/kg clean. The line yielded 69.9pc, with a staple length of 76mm, tensile strength of 44N/kt and 1pc vm. The line was branded Fishington/NE and was offered by Landmark Sydney.

“Looking forward, there are an estimated 38,000 bales on offer across the country (this week).

“The current yo-yoing of the market is seeing the ‘lucky’ growers catching the market on an upswing and the ‘unlucky’ growers hitting the market on a downswing,” Mr Rookyard said.

“This offers no consistency for growers, brokers or buyers alike; however, with an extremely volatile global market place impacting consumer confidence there is no clear picture in sight of when this will end.”
